foru
The journal that
writes itself.
You don't have to be a writer to keep a journal. Just talk — messy, half-formed, out loud — and foru shapes it into words worth keeping.
You talk, it writesA few rough words become a real entry, in your voice.
It learns youEvery entry kept, foru understands you a little better.

Before you begin
The short, honest version of our terms. Please read it — it matters.
What foru is — and isn't
foru is a journaling companion. It is not therapy, counselling, or medical or mental-health advice, and it can't respond to emergencies. If you're struggling, please talk to a qualified professional. If you're in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, contact your local emergency services (000 in Australia) or Lifeline on 13 11 14 — right now, before journaling.
Your entries are written by AI
foru uses artificial intelligence to turn your words into journal entries. They're written in your voice, but they're generated — they can miss the mark or get details wrong. Your entries belong to you, and how you use them is up to you.
Your data
Your journal is saved on this device only — we don't run accounts or store your entries on our servers. What you type or say to foru is sent securely to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate each reply. We count anonymous usage — like how many devices opened the app today — but never your entries, your name, or anything personal. We never sell your data.
Using foru
You need to be 16 or older. Don't misuse the service, attempt to overload it, or use it for anything unlawful.
The legal bit
foru is provided "as is". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we're not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of foru, and we don't guarantee it will always be available or error-free. Nothing here excludes rights that can't be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. We may update these terms; if we do meaningfully, you'll be asked to agree again. These terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia.
First things first
What should foru call you?
Just your first name — this is your journal, after all.
Before we begin
Your entries come back as you.

How do you move through things?
This shapes how foru talks with you — and it keeps learning as you go.
Say it out loud or type a few words — messy is fine. I'll shape it into something you can keep.
